Production looks a lot different for most of us since the beginning of 2020. I watched two projects I was really excited about fizzle out because they required travel and onsite crews to be accomplished. It was heart breaking, but not nearly as much as watching people struggle through illness and unemployment throughout this pandemic. It can be easy to feel helpless in the midst of something that feels so big. I find its the creators doing small projects that are bringing a smile to my face and helping me get through the day. I was lucky enough to create a few videos that hopefully will spread that same feeling. 1stAveMachine partnered with Google Arts & Culture to create two videos for GAC's Perspectives series. The videos were shot 100% remotely and were designed to invite people stuck at home to use GAC's online resources to travel online. Many hours went into the research to present the most fun facts and images to tell these stories - not to mention coordinating technology over Zoom between multiple time zones! In the end, I feel like I'm the one who was inspired by these videos. It was so moving to meet Karen and Paul and have them recount some of their fondest memories from their honeymoon to me - a complete stranger. And it was also a blast coming up with quirky clues and hints to send the Eh Bee family chasing their way through a Google Art's & Culture scavenger hunt. I'd never designed one before, but I think I might take it up as a hobby! Both videos celebrate the personal moments that connects us as humans as well as the limitless possibilities of learning and exploration with technology. I'm so grateful to have these videos be my first experience directing with a feature UI interface as well as a 100% remote shoot.
