FSU's MFA in Film Production is a lifetime in a month. At least, that's how it feels.
This semester is a concoction of classes and practical on set experience, which is on par with the school's practically based curriculum. We have 4 blocks within the semester. They alternate between class and production. The classes include Visual Effects, Pre-Visualization, Writing, Editing, Directing, and Film Aesthetics. The production cycle is broken into a week of pre-production and a week of production where we act as BTL crew members for our second year MFA students' thesis films.
My BTL positions I've been selected to crew are Key Grip, 2nd AC, Script Supervisor, and 2nd AD.
It's a fantastic medley of learning and implementation. And of course, the more practical time we spend the better we're able to plan the execution of our own projects. The knowledge the second years have acquired is passed onto us by the collaboration and we give them extra hands to make their films.
We are currently in development with our own scripts that we will shoot starting in May.
